Cyd Charisse was a classically trained ballet dancer who made a name for herself dancing with the likes of Gene Kelley and Fred Astaire in the movies. Never an actress, always a dancer, always graceful and powerful, Charisse was a unique part of movie history that has rarely been emulated and never been duplicated. She passed away this week.

I have a hard time seeing still pictures as appropriate when making a cyd charisse tribute. She's so incredible when she moves. When I saw that first picture, I thought we were going to see some of that short dance with the hat on the end of her foot--now that would be a tribute.
