I've noticed a lot of these sadly abused (yes, this sort of ridiculous brainwashing is a type of abuse) seem to be homeschooled. Anybody who sees the real world frequently ends up asking questions, and religion tends to have a lot of trouble standing up against that.

It's sick. I have nothing against any religion, but not giving your child the freedom of choice is cruel. What these children we're given is not freedom of choice. They we're taught about God, and only God, and only the God their parents wanted them to learn about.

It's like saying "Well, there is no gravity. And if you believe in gravity you will be tortured forever." I'm willing to bet most impressionable, intelligent eight year olds would suddenly not believe in gravity if this was force-fed to them for their entire lives.

The only fundamentalist I know IRL was homeschooled.

There are two reasons atheists and agnostics are more common online than IRL: free access to information from all kinds of people, and freedom to be honest without fear of retribution. IRL, fear keeps people in line.
