It's like saying "Well, there is no gravity. And if you believe in gravity you will be tortured forever." I'm willing to bet most impressionable, intelligent eight year olds would suddenly not believe in gravity if this was force-fed to them for their entire lives.
There are two reasons atheists and agnostics are more common online than IRL: free access to information from all kinds of people, and freedom to be honest without fear of retribution. IRL, fear keeps people in line.
