Creepy Dutch TV Host- Paedophile Or No? Related Videos
|
I don't know how else to take that...
Translation anyone? Please??
This is an old clip from Paul de Leeuw, a well-known Dutch TV/radio show host and singer, that recently appeared online with a misplaced "creepy paedophile" tag (so I would advice to remove it). The boy is Keesje Groenteman, family of Hanneke Groenteman - a befriended journalist.
Ok, i've had to come back to this again, i'm seriously disturbed as to how you can defend this? This is not ok, and to suggest removing the paedo tag? Even if this is acceptable within the family to be so overtly sexual with the child, it's irresponsible to the extreme to air it on television. What message do you think it sends out? Imagine the paedophiles watching it. Ugh

I agree the title in relevant in reflecting a point of view that to some degree is valid. I would also argue the clip is referring to paedophilia, no question about it.
This discussion also reminds me of
Eminem (Without me)
Now this looks like a job for me
So everybody just follow me
Cuz we need a little controversy,
Cuz it feels so empty without me
Yet, indeed, sometimes controversy can be too big..

I think there is only one direction to push it, i'm certainly not one for being over dramatic. I see your point, but at the end of the day, the title of the video is relevant. No-one is saying he is a paedophile. But he is certainly making himself look like he could be, I don't think anyone could argue with that.
Well, there's good and bad in everything.

Thanks for your comment, appreciate it.
I also said "being controversial" (not only looking for).
We don't live in a clear cut world, but an ambiguous one. I'm not as heavily opiniated on this clip but I can say if I would have been the TV station programmer I would not have aired this (e.g. I didn't vote for/against this clip, but the discussion about it is interesting so I think I would've aired it in context of a debate on paedophilia, a practice I condemn as does the law but this doesn't mean there shouldn't be a debate about the issue). But as there's a countless variety of channels these days, there a big chance such a clip is being broadcasted, especially in a more liberal media landscape - which I think is filling up the "emptiness" that would result from a non-controversial world: people seem to have an innate need for controversy, but what kind of controversy is variable, as what is too or not controversial/liberal is different for everyone. One can not please everybody's opinion.
Excuse me if I sound like I'm on a high horse but I think it's important to write out the complexity of this case..
Regarding Paul de Leeuw's balls, I'm against corporal punishment, especially without a fair trial.
I'm not just playing devil's advocate - I also wrote down I personally would consider this clip too controversial (& not air it) as I also think this is touching the nerves of people, especially victims. This is to some degree an angry/emotional response too.
I'd rather not be steering towards an entrenched debate, but instead have a discussion that reflects both rational and emotional responses to this clip.
BTW
Have you seen this case in Ghana that I posted?

In fact, I think I deserve a star point for the personal sacrifice I've just made.
