It's Halloween, It's funny, and if nothing else, it was a political statement. Take a deep breath, realize it doesn't matter, and get off the mans back.
Being president is probably the most dangerous desk job in the US, it might even be safer to sell crack. 9 have survived imminent assassination attempts, and at least 4 have been killed.
Since we have only had 43 presidents, thats a 13/43 ~35% likelihood of being the target of an actualized assassination attempt. We have good reason not to take threats against presidents or candidates lightly.
Implying that that any of the candidates should not only die, but die in exceedingly violent and painful ways, apparently at the hands of a mob, is , and should be socially unacceptable, and it also happens, because of the inherent threat to the lives of people in their position, to be illegal.
Mimicking burning and lynching is not a "political statement". Sometimes it's appropriate to suggest that the masses are going to rise up and kill some terrible dictator by burning him in effigy, but let us be clear, that is a threat of violence, just as this is.
The "I was just joking around when I was point my toy-gun at the cops" argument can not and should not be taken seriously.
In my opinion, hanging, burning, destroying an effigy of any person is not acceptable.
