If anything it just illustrates she isn't a 'tough mouse hunting independent hockey mom'... in fact she is a drone willing to do or say anything she is told to win... and when her programing doesn't apply or she forgets, this is what we see... A woman who i wouldln't trust to educate pre-schoolers.

An online database called Homophila [1] is available to search for human disease gene homologues in flies and vice versa. Drosophila is being used as a genetic model for several human diseases including the neurodegenerative disorders Parkinson's, Huntington's, spinocerebellar ataxia and Alzheimer's disease. The fly is also being used to study mechanisms underlying aging and oxidative stress, immunity, diabetes, and cancer, as well as drug abuse.

Just imagine if fruit fly research could one day cure Down Syndrome? She'd be all over that shit.

Notice also that ever since the $150k in clothing and makeup scandal, she wears her hair down and has average jewelry and wears cheaper suits and even is wearing different glasses. I normally wouldn't notice such things but it's just such a striking difference from the glitz and glamor of a week ago.
Gotta love Olbermann, he's often the only guy who puts this stuff on the air. The kind of stuff that SHOULD be on the air. Faux or CNN wouldn't touch this stuff with a 10' poll. Sad really that this is one of the few news guys anymore who actually gives two shits about anything but good ratings and having hot women falling over themselves to tell you 'the news.'
Anyone who took biology in highschool should know fruit flies have been a staple of biological research for decades. Easy to obtain, easy to care for, nobody cares what happens to fruit flies, and probably most importantly, they're prolific breeders.
It's an appeal to the anti-intellectuals, it's Bush's 'fuzzy math', it's go with the gut, and it's a large part of what's wrong in this country.

According to some recent opinions, she's already given up on 2008 and may be positioning for 2012.
Bailin' Palin???
During this "outbreak of peace", I went to extremes to find work in technology transfer efforts and other non-defense related areas, oftentimes volunteering my time with groups or start-up companies willing to let me work with them in the hopes of securing some grant money someday. These efforts were all in vain, however. Why? Because scientific funding was waning everywhere, not just in defense. Competition for grant money was absolutely fierce and in some cases, merely a lottery. Only those with decades of experience in their special fields had a chance of winning. Our government had taken the "peace dividend" (which resulted in part from my career demise) and used it to prop up the new "social democracies" that resulted from the breakup of the Soviet Union. Once again, WHERE WAS THE OUTCRY AGAINST ANTI-SCIENCE POLITICIANS when all this was happening? Instead, what I saw on the news was euphoria over the "end of the cold war" (euphemism for the greatest one-sided disarmament in history).
From what has happened to other scientists as well as myself, I'm afraid you would have an extremely difficult time convincing me that there ever was much concern about scientific research among our politicians, especially over the last two decades. So why all of this bashing of Sarah Palin for being "anti-science"?

But i'm more sorry to hear that you view 'giving up' as somehow the appropriate and a viable standing... Your suggestion seems to be what?... that we abandon it entirely and fail to critizes our would be leaders for their ass-backwards" beleifs?... I really don't see any other suggestions, really just complaining about something that happened to you over fifteen years ago, and frankly it's hard to respect that if you offer up nothing else.

My experiments are driving me crazy, ergo all science is bad.
First, I am not advocating that we "give up" on science even though it is probably far too late to salvage my career. From my perspective, however, Congress has been riddled with anti-science politicians for decades. They have weakened the general health of scientific research in this country and cost thousands of scientists their careers, including myself -- and nobody bats an eyelid. Now, a vice-presidential candidate dares to make an utterance that is viewed by some as "anti-science", and there is practically a lynch mob after her. The flip-flop from one extreme to the other has me most baffled. I would sure welcome a posting from someone who could clear up this mystery for me.
Second, I am very much concerned that the attacks I read against Sarah Palin will harm, not help the situation with science in this country. These attacks have gone far beyond criticism of her stand on science issues and have gotten personal. Oftentimes, derogatory language and descriptions are used. There is no place for such abuse in either science, politics, or religion. It will only give us an image of being extreme and unprofessional, which we cannot afford.
Finally, if your definition of science includes an unquestioning acceptance of evolution and global warming, be informed that there are many scientists who would differ with you. Although these theories are generally presented as sacred truth, they are far from being universally accepted in the scientific community. Personally, I have yet to find an evolutionist who can satisfactorily explain the process by which highly complex, self-replicating DNA molecules arise from the "hot thin soup". Nor has it ever been demonstrated in the laboratory. It seems that when faced with the choice between life by intelligent design and life by freak occurrence, they choose the latter. Now who is being unscientific?
Evolution doesn't need to currently be a perfect and complete theory in order to be the theory with the most evidence for it by a vast margin. Speculation on Shiva, Allah, or whatever doesn't solve anything
If we had to choose between betting for or against science, the historical record would strongly recommend the former.
