I'm probably the only Command & Conquer fan on the Sift (so don't expect this to escape the queue!)...but I enjoyed watching these, so maybe someone else will too?
I was just commenting on this particular video, in which all we get to see of the actual gameplay, just about, is buildings being destroyed. You can't really deny that, can you? I'm sure they wanted to show off their advanced environmental destruction physics or something, but it winds up looking funny ... "Command & Conquer 3: it's like 'Rampage', but newer and more expensive. Oh, and fewer Godzillas."
But I'll upvote for the sheer joy these games used to give me back in the day, the original Command and Conquer and Red Alert 1. Oh Tanya, oh NOD obelisk, Oh the memories.
And Supreme Commander looks OK Farhad...but C&C will always be the original, and the best in my opinion (despite the fact Westwood Studios is now under EA!) Plus, as you said: "Oh Tanya, oh NOD obelisk, Oh the memories" - well Kane & his Obelisk of Light are back!
As I said Command & Conquer is the original and best RTS (it created the genre)...I believe it was also the first for full 3D detailed graphics, first for ships, first for underground vehicles & first for dogs! (to name just a few!)
I think the graphics for Supreme Commander seem a little bland, like they had to sacrifice detail (such as full DX9/10 Texture & Lighting etc) to achieve the scalability. I'll look into when both games are being released, maybe it's earlier in development...
* The game that created the RTS genre was Dune II. Stonkers if you want to be anal retentive.
* The original Command and Conquer used sprites for graphics.
* As the paragon example of gameplay refinement, Cavedog Entertainment's acclaimed Total Annihilation from 1997 distilled the core mechanics of Command & Conquer, and introduced the first 3D units in real-time strategy games. A significant achievement in the days before graphics cards with hardware based 3D acceleration became commonplace.
C&C3 will be a good game, but Supreme Commander will be a great game. And this is not fanboyism, it's a conclusion I reached after watching both games being demoed, and seeing what each one is setting out to achieve.
The C&C series has had a good storyline which made up for the more generic aspects of some of the gameplay in the latter sequels. I didn't even try Tiberian Sun but I just picked it up for $2 because I figured that's a fair price.
Those games were always awesome, really made my pulse pound and kept me on my toes!
Hell, there's no count of the hours I wasted with C&C but I'm not regretting it.
Some new information about the third faction plus screen shots.
Despite only mediocre beta tester impressions? I'd add my own comments but the game browser that GPG has implemented is just about unusable, I've been in the beta for two weeks and I have never successfully joined a game. I still hold out hope for the game but so far the buzz from people who have actually played isn't that positive.

Who knows?
