This link works, but Comedy Central isn't allowing embeds of it.

Didn't we just establish that windows media embeds are verboten?

anyway, looks like there is embed code from the link you provided there:

<embed FlashVars='videoId=70908' src='http://www.comedycentral.com/sitewide/video_player/view/default/swf.jhtml' quality='high' bgcolor='#cccccc' width='332' height='316' name='comedy_central_player' align='middle' allowScriptAccess='always' allownetworking='external' type='application/x-shockwave-flash' pluginspage='http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer'></embed>

Their website is weird. I went back to the link I posted with both IE and Firefox. In both cases, the embed code just flashes on screen for a fraction of a second before disappearing, and you have to stop it at the right time to get it.

I tried that embed code in my own HTML file and it just plays the "this video no longer available" video.
I just tried your embed code in the actual video here, but it doesn't work.

So I need somebody to upload it to an approved host (I'd do it myself but that would be a selflink)

That's weird. The embed code was stable for me on that website (no flashing or disappearing), so I assumed it was still alive. Why would they provide embed code for a vid that works just fine there but isn't embeddable?

So, I guess we *return this and call it *dead.

That works. I don't know how long youtube will allow that videosiftmirror account to last, though. It's been tried before and I think all the vids had to get removed.

[edit] Also, I'm guessing you created that account, so this might be considered a self-link. I know it came up once before, but I don't remember the outcome. I'll search the talk posts to see what I can find.

so yeah, if you created that account, this is a big no-no.

jwray - you need to answer that question. Did you upload the fix and embed your own video? Personally, I think we ought to be able to do that if the original was not a self link, but as it stands now, it's definitely not allowed.

As far as I know the rule is:

Were no strangers to love
You know the rules and so do i
A full commitments what Im thinking of
You wouldnt get this from any other guy

I just wanna tell you how Im feeling
Gotta make you understand

never gonna give you up
Never gonna let you down
Never gonna run around and desert you
Never gonna make you cry
Never gonna say goodbye
Never gonna tell a lie and hurt you

Weve know each other for so long
Your hearts been aching
But youre too shy to say it
Inside we both know whats been going on
We know the game and were gonna play it

And if you ask me how Im feeling
Dont tell me youre too blind to see

Give you up. give you up
Give you up, give you up
Never gonna give
Never gonna give, give you up
Never gonna give
Never gonna give, five you up

I just wanna tell you how Im feeling
Gotta make you understand

Considering how screwy comedy central is with the region blocking, the fact they seem to like to remove videos and/or change the link location for no reason and the fact at least a few attempts have been made on this particular video to 'fix' it, I don't see this as much more than a technical violation.

Actually a video sift mirror for these things would be great so long as everyone could submit videos to it. My only concern is the account would be quickly targeted for copyright infringement (viacom seems to be rather relentless about searching for and getting their videos removed for sites like youtube) and have the videos removed or the account banned.

The only other options are to A - Accept Comedy Central's dickish region blocking as an unfortunate fact and allow everyone to post videos from it anyways, or B. Actually enforce the ban on comedy central videos.

Nobody expects the siftquisition!

I don't know who made it, but the top suspects are Keyser Soze, Rick Astley, Fedquip, Raptor Jesus, and the sift-fairy. Rick knows the rules, and so do I.

lol - siftquisition? I just wanted to know if you posted the vid to youtube. The account and the vid showed up a few minutes before you fixed it here. If it is a generic account for people to host possible fixed vids, care to share the info with the rest of the community?

I dont care if its a self link... the first comment on youtube was great:

I say "who fucking cares?!"

It's not like he's Stephen Colbert or the marketing director for Comedy Central trying to abuse VS for personal gain. Why does everything have to get so needlessly administrative with some of you sometimes? I think in this case, regardless of who made the holding account, it's just a mirror to allow people to see the content that was originally blocked and/or broken. *return for great justice.

Didn't you read what I wrote? I think we should be able to do that. The point was that others have been specifically denied that recourse to fixing vids, so it would hardly be fair to them. It's not about being administratively anal retentive. It's about consistency.
