Classic end scene from "The Graduate"

A memorable scene featuring the very memorable song, "Sound of Silence".

This is the original source of such a spot-on parody by the Simpsons, that the overbearing connotations would lead any good semiotician to agree with me that this deserves inclusion in the *woohoo channel.

Also, there should be a way for sifters to declare videos that such be considered 'related' by extended thematic relationship - I guess that would be one of the reasons we have comments:

The Graduate does not hold up well after all these years, it is a film that manages to not be timeless.

Just because -you- don't like a movie doesn't mean it doesn't hold up well. It just means you don't like it. Personally, I never did think it was a "great" movie, but it's no worse now than it was then.

Having been in both age groups represented in the movie, I'd say that it's still a reasonably accurate depiction of life. Nothing much has changed when it comes to personal interactions, older men and women still find younger ones attractive, and some will act on that attraction. And some people get pissy when dumped. :🤷:

When they were filming, Hoffman was originally banging very hard on the glass, as one would expect his character to do in the situation. However, the head of the church saw them filming and freaked out, saying that he wouldn't allow them to film there if they banged on the glass. They compromised by finding a way that would prevent the glass from breaking: Hoffman held his hands far apart and tapped. Thus the unfitting but now famous rapping on the glass.
