I'm not sure why ol' Uncle Walt deleted this scene from the original 'Fantasia' (1940), but to me it would have been the best scene because music like this is synonymous with 'beautiful'. I hear ya, JAPR. Another piece of trivia regarding Fantasia, from Wikipedia: "Besides its avant-garde qualities, Fantasia was notable for being the first major film released in stereophonic sound, using a process dubbed 'Fantasound'." You should be able to hear some stereo effects when you listen to this too. Nothing eye-popping, but still impressive given the technology of the day.

I heard that they couldn't play this scene because while playing a preview screening in front of a test audience of hippies on LSD, an astounding 75% of them suffered severe brain hemorrhaging due to the overwhelming sense of joy and astonishment they felt during this scene.

...but that's just the word on the streets.

Wow. I was about to say that I understood why Disney deleted this scene, because the animation didn't come close to doing this song justice, but then the video got to the whole ripples distorting moonlight part and I was hooked. This is very beautiful.
