I'm amazed that they attack Hitchens for how his remarks might make falwall's family feel, and yet completely ignore the massive pain that Falwall's remarks about the US deserving 9/11 had on the families of those killed there.

I also can't believe Fux news would try to claim that being hateful and mean is a bad thing, considering that is their business plan.

It is fun to watch the media dance of the seven veils (should we be solemn? or critical? will we offend red states?) with the death of bigot hatemonger Falwell.

Nice to see Hitchens cut through all of that.

Alan Colmes . . .what a waste of air . . . almost makes Hannity look coherent.

Oh, yes, FOX is sooooo sensitive to the grieving families of dead celebrities. Just check out their obituary for the far more admirable Kurt Vonnegut.

Notice they almost cut the segment mid-way because it was obvious Hitchens was right. Hilarious.

Anything that could love something like that and grieve for it is as guilty as it was and deserves to suffer. What a shame Hitchens, admirable as he is in many ways, was too weak to say that.

Here is a link to the Slate article by Hitchens that is mentioned several times. The first two paragraphs are exquisite.

I love, love, love how Hannity, at some point, becomes a six year old ---"You're mean!" and makes faces at the camera. This little piece of demolition ranks up there with Jon Stewart's takedown of Crossfire.

"Dr." Falwell. What a load of bullshit.

From Wiki:

Although he sometimes used the title "Doctor," Falwell held no earned doctorate. He held three honorary degrees: an honorary Doctor of Divinity from Tennessee Temple Theological Seminary, an honorary Doctor of Letters from California Graduate School of Theology (an unaccredited institution), and an honorary Doctor of Laws from Central University in Seoul, South Korea (an unaccredited institution).

"Doctor of Divinity". That's like having majored in the bogyman except that he didn't have to actually go to school for it.

Sketch I'll have you know i have a PHD in the Invisible Pink Unicornology that i just printed out on my deskjet that has all the value of any PhD in Divinity or Theology and i don't appreciate your dismissal of our long our of study. I for instance read the wikipeda article twice before this reply meaning i have a great deal of knowledge on the subject of Theology. I'll also have you know that i have also studied the flying spaghetti monster though this faith is blasphemy to the one and only Invisible Pink Unicorn as well as the tea cup which orbits the sun.

Hannity said the nicest thing that could be said of the Reverend: "Jerry Falwell slaughtered no one in his life."

All these shows do the same thing. It's like an unfair playground fight.
They invite someone who agrees with them.
Then they invite someone they both disagree with...and gang up on him/her.
Even bill marr does it on occasion. super slate linkee rickegee

Republican strategist Ralph Reed? I with they'd be more accurate and call him NeoCon Strategist.

Here's a bit of some of his "strategy":

In the spring of 1983, Reed was accused of rigging the election of ally Sam Harben as his successor as president of the College Republicans at the University of Georgia. Promising a keg party, Reed recruited a number of new "members" to vote in the election, submitting their membership paperwork on the last night before the deadline for the election. The defeated presidential candidate, Lee Culpepper, wrote to the College Republican National Committee calling the election a sham. The CRNC investigated the matter, reprimanded Reed and ordered a new election. However, in the meantime, Culpepper "led an angry exodus" out of the UGA College Republicans and into a newly formed Young Republicans of Clarke County club. Harben admitted later, "We ran a dirty election."

By 'not anything special' generally means that he defended the Iraq war rather than attacking religion. Thus disappointing a large portion of the crowd. For those interested, his Daily Show appearances include him talking about nearly getting spanked by Margaret Thatcher, playing devils advocate for Mother Theresa and having the grand son of Ayatollah Kohmanei over for supper at his house. Oh, and the time he spent in Iraq and North Korea too. Nothing special? One of the far and away most interesting guests the Daily Show has had, which is saying a lot.
