my understanding, from a different video, was that indeed the Bloods came about as a response to the Cribs (who were themselves emulating the black panthers), and acted to patrol their areas of LA that were insufficiently policed. Butting heads with the Crips/Cribs is pretty easy to understand starting with this information.
