I use this trick to open the lids on stuck jars. Whack the bottom and the air pressure wave loosens the lid a bit.

I used to do this trick to win beers off Marines when I was in the Air Force. It's really not hard, just physics.

Sometimes the bottle breaks wrong and you cut yourself. The number of beers you can win pays for the stitches.
