Complete fake. Notice how he doesn't do a normal bowler's release stance like you would if it was an accident. He sets his body up for the fall. Like watching the worst of America's Funniest Videos. Lame.

The impression that I got was that he screwed up before the release, realized he'd screwed up and held onto the ball to avoid the foul.

It did look a little too choreographed though, and I surely don't understand the rules involved. Often with videos like this one, I wish they would leave a few more seconds on the end so we can hear what the commentators have to say.

He does look a little too serious and upset about it to make me believe it was just for show. If it were a joke I imagine he would be laughing or at least smiling afterward. Especially considering he's won the tournament.
