Apparently Bose has been working on this system for the past 15 years. If it makes it onto production cars, it will be pretty revolutionary.

My understanding is that they are electromagnetic and managed by a computer which tells the wheels when to rise and fall based on sensors which detect changes in the road below. Similar to those pneumatic tables that correct for floor vibration in real-time.

seems to me like this would raise the numbers of animals (or even kids!) that get run over without anyone noticing...

If it ran over a squirrel, would only one side jump?

Yeah, the car hops. Check out Bose's site.

I heard their goal is a price tag <$5,000, though I doubt that will ever happen.

This reminds me of old Lexus' TV ads.

imagine the reliability increase in so many automotive parts due to the dramatic reduction in vibrations year in and year out

Actually maatc, it will probably stop them from being run over to begin with. Passed over maybe, but not crushed...

and at deathcow's point, you're probably right about reliability increases, but parts in this suspension setup probably need to be retuned or replaced at least as often as tires.
