James Roesays...oh man, sorry about the advert at the end. Although I do love the national geographic, so I am only kind of sorry.
BicycleRepairMansays...Exactly WHY did the coyote get scared by the blood? I mean, he was going to eat the thing, you'd think ripping it open would spill some blood anyways? and arent predators actually DRAWN to the smell/taste of blood? I'd get it if there was some skunk-smell or acid or toxins or something in the blood, but the commentator specifically said it was just pure blood..
James Roesays...From what I learned in a bbc documentary the poison in the ants builds up in the lizards blood, this causes the blood to have a foul taste that apparently freaks out most predators. Another odd fact in the bbc documentary I saw was that they will only do this when dogs are around. In order to get the lizard to squirt in that documentary they let a lab chase it around a closed room for a while. I can't help but imagine national geographic did something similar with this coyote, but just hid that part from the viewer.
antsays...Upvote for the ants!!
