Granted she only does this once, but a million dollars in ten seconds is pretty damn sweet!

Even after taxes she's still probably looking at .7 million.

Could you imagine how it would feel to realize, in less than a second, that all your money problems have vanished?

Or even better, if you don't have money problems, $700,000 to do whatever you want with.... mmmm...

Yes but $700,000 US isn't worth so much these days.

You know the world is not in balance when someone who guesses something costs tenhundred dollars gets a million dollars.

Either way, I'm happy for her.

I don't know. My mortgage and student loan statements are always presented to me in US dollars.

I saw this show live, and what struck me about it was that The Price is Right made a game so easy they practically threw the money at her. Sure, she got really lucky with the first one, but she had 30 full seconds to guess the price of two objects playing the old "lower, higher" game. The odds were in her favor.

It would be great if at the end Drew goes, "oh hey, just kidding."

"Ten Hundred"? She is possibly middle class.
Typical middle-class income = $35,000/yr after taxes
$700,000 = 20 years of income.

Nothing to sneeze at.

Although, the unfortunate truth is, she is more likely to be $1.4Million in debt within 2 years. Windfall winners screw up by thinking of what they can buy, rather than what they can support. eg. if she bought a $700,000 home, she'd be bankrupt from the next year's property taxes alone.

(edit) Ok, so if "ten hundred" is not a decent indicator of education level, how about her shirt?

ps. I notice a lot of "WHAT? $1,000,000 ON PRICE IS RIGHT??" posts. This is one of the Prime Time specials.

I disagree in specifics, but not in general.

In 10 years she'll probably have nothing much left to show for the money. Spend it, lose it, it's gone. But she'll enjoy those 10 years at least.

She is possibly under a lot of frigging pressure.

I dislike The Price is Right on so many levels. It's inane marketing propaganda masquerading as entertainment. The subject matter of the show is repetitive, useless, boring, and deceptive. It's almost as braindead as Deal Or No Deal. The sole redeeming quality of both shows is the comedy of watching the spastic effusive guests lose their composure.

Do yourself a favor and watch a show with real content instead of this content-free garbage. Perhaps TNG, DS9, TDS/Colbert, Frontline, Nova, Charlie Rose, etc.

You should include the showcase where she won 3 Jeeps. Talk about a great run on a game show...

In my more stodgy moods, I agree with all of this. But mostly I'm just happy for this lady.

She said "ten hundred" because she was counting down by even hundreds, and although it sounds dumb, a thousand IS ten hundred. She also realized that she had said it wrong, but since she was told immediately that it was too high she wasn't going to waste any of those precious ten seconds correcting herself. Not to mention she probably had "TEN seconds TEN seconds TEN seconds" rattling around in her head...

Doesn't anyone else see this as just shameless viral marketing? I mean, really, there's nothing that amazing or standoutish (yeah, that's a word) about this... I would say it was purposely put out to promote the new Price is Right.

This actually is much much more than Bill Gates makes. Earning money at a rate of $1 million in 10 seconds gives a yearly income of $3.16 trillion.

Bill probably only earns a few billion a year.

Assuming 5% appreciation of Bill Gates' assets, he would make 8 million dollars every day.

You haven't seen countless game shows where someone wins lots of money? Huh... yeah, you must be living a life of never watching tv I guess.

If she'd won it by some freaky act of ball skills (ball through a hoop from a ridiculous way away, long putt, something), or she'd been super cocky about her chances like the guy who won the million on WWTBAM and called a friend just to say he was about to win, or she was someone who had recently been evicted from her home or in some other way this was her only salvation money wise.

Anything like that would have made it amazing... her just playing the game as described and winning... meh.

What makes the Price is Right so popular is that you show up at the taping, and if you don't swear every 5 seconds, and you compose yourself as a truly nice person, you just might get to play that day.

The other game shows --every last one of them-- have a grueling behind-the-scenes selection process.

Now some shows are even "recycling" contestants, the guy who lost big at "Who Wants to Have A Slim Chance in Hell of Being a Millionaire" suddenly shows up a few weeks later on "Deal or Yack For An Hour About How You're Not Greedy And Will Listen To your Friends, But Then Choose No Deal."

In France, we've got a game called "Pekin Express" where 15 teams of 2 people must travel through a whole f*cking continent (Asia or South America), in 45 days, with 1 euro per day and no rights to pay for cabs or locals to transport them. At the end, the winning team get ... 100k euros ...

And here, 10 seconds = 1M bucks. Yeehaa !

I've seen lots of people win money. I've never seen anyone win a million dollars in ten seconds, much less on TPIR.
