I was almost not going to upvote this, out of concern that perhaps this guy has some sort of neurological impairment, like Rain Man, but when he was hitting the other guy he seemed "okay enough", so I'll override that concern this time.

My guess is they were probably drinking. Some people get emotional, and the pillow-to-the-nuts (good hit on the part of that guy, by the way) might have driven him to Misty-Eyed Town.
