Wow. Looks like we need an audiosift section!

I always love how the cabin crew on Virgin Air flights adresses everyone by standard with "Hello Boys and Girls"

That's brilliant. He reminds me of Robin Williams.

Sounds like someone that actually enjoys his job. It's a great sound.

It definitely makes you pay attention. Good on him.

i was thinking the same thing kingsblood. there's someone who at least does a convincing job of sounding like he enjoys what he does.

I had a guy exactly like this on a Continental flight from Newark to San Francisco once. He busted out a ton of jokes during the pre-flight and added this bit just before take-off:

"If you are talking to anyone who is not on this plane--unless you happen to be psychic--please end the conversation now and put away your electronic devices."

As impressive as his pre-flight was, I really admired him later when the woman seated directly in front of me, who was apparently scared of flying, had a panic attack after take-off. He and the rest of the crew did a fantastic job of calming her down and making sure she was okay for the rest of the flight. He personally spent about ten minutes holding her hand and just chatting with her to keep her calm. At the end of flight I shook his hand. He and his crew are the most professional people I've ever met--not just in the notorious airline industry but in any industry for that matter.

AHAHA.. that was bloody brilliant!!! i really laughed out loud for that. the quarter for every minute of oxygen was the best line.

nice, can't remember the last time I was on a flight and people actually applauded the flight attendant after his safety speech. I'd be much more inclined to pay attention if more of them were like that

That was great. I'll upvote anything that makes for a lighter day, whether it be a plane trip or a simple video on the Sift. Kudos to the steward.

How long before some douche nozzle gets offended at his casual delivery of safety information?

What was so great about it was that he really did deliver all of the important information — just wrapped in good humour.

And he didn't make any inappropriate jokes, like, "If we go down in water, we're all dead anyway, but in case you survive..." Professional.

Upvote for the quarters.

last flight I was on, the pilot was a standup comic.

"As you've already guessed we have started our descent, Please fasten your seatbelts and we'll see if I can impress you with my landing."

He had a ton of other jokes but this is the one I mainly remember.

Basically . . . if the plane goes down we're all gonna die, so we might as well be smiling when we go. Great stuff!

I'm still a fan of "in the event that this airliner becomes and ocean liner.....and remember, nobody loves you, or your money, more than Southwest."

I had a similar guy when i was in the army, (the plane was civilian, but on this occasion filled with soldiers on leave) and he went "Please keep your assault rifles safely in the overhead compartment" and we were like wtf

this would not make me feel safe at all. none of those announcements are done properly... i guess at least this was funny but still, can you remember anything he said or just the jokes? i challenge you to now put on a life vest in a nosediving passenger jet.

well anyway the safety advice is useless, you're either passed out, doomed, praying or hysterical if you're on one of them things when they crash. can anyone post a clip of a jumbo safely landing on water? i saw a great documentary which said statistically in a fire, you're best off being a strong young man, so you can crush old women under your feet as you leap for the exit with your elbows in the air. you don't have to be nearest the exit, you just need determination.

still safer than cars though. cars really suck.

i could go for "most downvotes of the month" by inserting a joke about steretypical sexuality of air stewards here...

Mink, I understand your pessimism, but consider the Air France flight that crash landed at Pearson International Airport in Toronto two years ago, in August.

EVERYONE got out alive, despite the plane cracking up and catching fire within 1-3 minutes or so. If I had access to any footage I'd definitely sift it up... perhaps I can find news coverage? Nah, too lazy.

Honestly, i'm surprised that this is legal. I was convinced all these announcements had to be made in a special way. I have never ever in all of my flights heard anything non-standard when it comes to these announcements. But then: i never travelled the US by plane (or at all btw ;-) )

Southwest has had announcements like this for several years (like a decade or so) -- or maybe it's the same male attendants who are still with the company and still flying

The important information was still given, as Arvana says. It's just wrapped up in comic delivery intended to keep you focused on what he's saying. I can't tell you how many flights I've taken where I just ended up tuning out whatever was going on pre-flight because it was the same monotonous tone and delivery every time.

^so the answer is to give clear information, properly, even if you're bored with saying it. but nobody does that.

wow...just wow! I don't get this...I mean it's a "little" bit funny and amusing...but over 100 votes?

I just wasn't voting on this before...but this is out of control and I feel like I have to vote it down now (not that it will make any difference) but just on principle. Not that many vids on the sift break the 100 mark...I can't believe this is one of them.

Southwest has always been an airline for employees-known a few fight attendants and pilots from SW in Dallas and Houston, and they all have very good things to say about the airline, as an employer.

If you follow a script in a boring way, then you might as well not say anything at all. I'm glad this vid has opened peoples' eyes.

Grimm, really? Why downvote something just because it made a lot of other people happy? Clearly it just resonated with a lot of people.

I agree with detlev409 -- the most popular videos aren't necessarily the best ones, just the ones that the most people appreciate.

But I respect your freedom to downvote anyway, Grimm.

Having just returned from an overseas trip (from mainland Australia to Tassie... hey, there's a sea in there!), and having flown a fair bit in the past, I can appreciate how deathly booooring these announcements are. This guy did indeed delivery every one of the points they have to, but did so in a way that made me want to listen to the information rather than my usual tuning out.

Great stuff and worth the upvote because it's someone enjoying their job and making what a lot of people find to be an unpleasant experience much nicer.
