Something similar happened a few years back in the little town of Murwillumbah in New South Wales, Australia.

A beer truck crashed into the Tweed river and life in the whole town came to a halt when everyone went "fishing" for the bottles in the river. The rugby team got so drunk that they lost an important game the day after.

A short film documentary was made about this called "Murbah Swamp Beer", which was shown at the Tropfest Shortfilm Festival. I meant to post this a few times but I could not find an embeddable version. It´s available on Joost though.

It is the fastest way to clear the lanes for traffic. You can't sell it after it's been dropped like that anyway. So they're helping. The driver probably said 'take it.'

I think Zor has the right idea. Plus, Man Law probably dictates that in that situation, once human casualties are taken care of, the next major priority is to save the beer. Well, maybe not necessarily in THAT order, but you get the gist.
