I always had my suspicions about his show. I can see one guy goin' out in the wild like on "Survivor Man", but who takes a camera man with him. Well this goes to show that "Man vs. Wild" is as real as professional wrestling.

This doesn't prove a thing...

It's dangerous to Cross the Road! Especially if you don't look both ways

It doesn't really matter to me that the show is fake, at least you still learn extremely vital survival skills. That's what the show is for, isn't it?

Now that is funny. I would almost say add a comedy tag to it.

for those who r confused the point of m V W is that he is dropped of in the middle of knowhere and then he always ends by finding a road and the program is set up to look like its him using his wits to find the closest road. this clip points out that he was near a road and hence not lost Evan though through the episode he acts as if he is lost. allso the piont is he didnot have to cross the lava bridge as he could have walked around the gap the safe way, . i still think the program is fun to watch but if you compare it to ray mears it would seem that BER grils is more for entertainment rather than a sort of documentary of 1 mans survival.

It's also like "Survivor".

Remember a few seasons ago that girl Stephanie was "all alone" at her camp and she was going on and on about how scary and lonely she was out there by herself. I'm like...um....there's 3 or 4 cameramen and soundmen standing around you. You're hardly alone.

kingsblood - actually a lot of people argue that Grylls's show is really dangerous because people think they are learning valuable survival skills which is not the case. For example, in one show he drinks his own urine to avoid dehydration without distilling it. Plus 99% of what he does is probably unsafe for even experts like Grylls (e.g., climbing down a water fall, getting unnecessarily wet, etc).

There is an entire wiki dedicated to the discussion of why the show is fake and dangerous:
http://www.daughtersoftiresias.org/bearwiki/Main_Page
Some pretty damning accusations on that site; ranging from evidence that Grylls spent the night at a hotel when he was supposedly roughing it out in the wild to an expose on how the encounter with a wild bear on the show was really just the producer in a bear suit.

Though I always felt the show was clearly "fake" in the purist sense. The show is really a Jason Bourne style fantasy set in exotic locations where we get to see Grylls perform some bad ass stunts (sometimes with the help of some unacknowledged aid). Its really quite entertaining.

If you want to see someone who doesn't make surivalist nonsense but does tell you about how to use the environment to your advantage and still respect nature then Ray Mears is your man. His programmes are brilliant.

I'm very surprised at what Bear Grylls "teaches" in his show. They really should have a disclaimer saying that his survival tips should not be used in a practical situation. Even in from basic course on survival I know what Bear does is against common sense.

RE the drinking of the urine...if he actually did that it's quite dangerous, as Les Stroud aka Survivorman pointed out 92% of urine is water however the rest contains very harmful toxins that can easily make you very ill or become deadly in a survival situation. Distillation is the only proper way to drink urine.

This show has really let me down, however the new season of Surivorman is coming out soon!

Come on guys, I live in the Southwest US. I once saw a man vs. wild that took place in the "dangerous" territory of Copper Canyon down in Mexico. The only thing I could think was, how were they going to cover up the safety rails that line the entire canyon? How were they going to cover up the resort that overlooks the south end of the canyon? And most importantly, how were they going to make such a safe and relaxing place look like a survival-show worthy destination?

This dude is the striving definition of a poser.

well, you know, people like to be entertained. He's always got a camera guy and therefor an emergency way out, so what did you expect?

i've seen worse tv than watching this dude catch a salmon with a stick and eat it raw and still alive (... because he was just that hungry... i.e. it made good tv).
