Very clever strategy by the president though, get someone else to trash talk the Reblicans for you, so the people think something is being done, then concede item after item from the bill over the course of many months (so it keeps attention away from other things) and then finally, get the guy who you think is on your side to say that the watered down version is "good enough" so people think they won. Not only does America lose, people don't blame the man in charge.
Fine con job indeed.
