After a few hours of torrential rain in Orange Park, FL we found a rare breed of Acura. The NSX Submarine.

The fun of rear engine cars.

I wonder how an MR2 would do on that stretch.

That's no submarine, that's a 2 person landing craft.

...and that puddle is only interesting with a car that low to the ground. I wouldn't get the brakes wet in my truck there.

It may be rear wheel drive, but certainly the entire interior has suffered water damage. Also, despite it being rear wheel drive, I can't imagine where the air intake is for that car so that it isn't getting flooded.

Also it seems like such a stupid thing to do, I know exactly where and how high up my car's air intake is, and there is noway I would play russian roulette with a deep pool of water. Not to mention my car is worth fractions of what his. Can't someone driving an NSX afford to get their car towed home...well i suppose they can afford any repairs from getting their engine flooded with water.

not even get it towed. There is ALWAYS different route... HEAVEN forbid you might have to walk for a bit.

As long as the air intake is above the water. This is no problem at all.

The trick to flood driving here in Florida isn't making it through the water it's whether your car starts the next day. He probably paid a very hefty repair bill after the tow.

Not rear wheel drive, rear engine, as in the engine is in the back of the car, where the trunk would be. Might make a difference that you're not using your engine compartment as the bow of the ship.

Something seemed off with the driver's side front wheelwell after exiting the puddle. Anybody else see that?

I do wonder what the situation was where someone who had spent that much on an Acura NSX would think it necessary to ford through water that deep.

If anyone considers driving through a flooded street, please be aware the wake you produce can flood the surrounding homes. Hasn't happened in this case, obviously, but it's something to keep in mind.

It happens every rainy season here in Cairns.

I meant to say rear engine, but wrote rear wheel.

Yeah, the plastic piece in in the wheelwell had come loose. I'm guessing the force of the water rushing through the front of the car and trying to come out of the area near the wheelwell dislodged the plastic piece usually meant to keep rain water out of the front of the car.

I've got caught in water much deeper then expected a couple of times when the street unexpectedly dipped down in an area. One of those times I did end up getting towed (Chevy Cavalier, ugh) It is quite possible he moving and in too deep when he realized he was screwed, so he just went for it.

He should have skipped over the pond, just like the Countach did in Speed Zone.

When you and your roommates finish off a bottle of 151, the main room computer goes from being the group PC to the prank mobile. Happy birthday to me
