A hilarious swimmer from Guinea in the 2000 Summer Olympics

Eric "The Eel" Moussambani won brief international fame at the 2000 Summer Olympics when he swam the 100m freestyle in 1: 52.72 —so slow it was more than twice the time of his faster competitors, and outside of even the 200m world record

I remember seeing that clip during the Olympics; Moussambani didn't have a trainer, experience, or had even seen an Olympic-size pool before. He got in via a promotional program to encourage developing countries to participate.

Ya spelled eel wrong, which is really impressive considering it looks like you copied the paragraph from wikipedia where it's spelled right.

I feel a little bad for the guy. It's not like he did this as a gag, he was just completely unprepared. Give him some credit for putting himself out there.
