Would have been better if he had shown more of how 8 strings opens some different possiblities. He mostly stayed with the 6 regular strings, particularly in the solo. Of course, you wouldn't want to solo that low anyway.

That's "Soul Decoded" from the Divine Heresy's debut album "Bleed the Fifth". But, it's not an intrumental ... (even if there's a jam session here : http://youtube.com/watch?v=tbi1tuqwGDs )

If you want some metal instrumental, look for Meshuggah's stuff.

This is like Gillette shavers. I wants moar strings.

I think the original, or classic guitar, is better and more thought out than the new 7 and 8 strings. We only have 4½ fingers to work with, which means that the extra strings can't be used at the same time. It seems to find a niche with metal, because metal-heads want to go way low to make the guitar growl and still be able to solo in the higher notes, but I doubt it will have a big market penetration anywhere else.

More seriously, check last compositions by Meshuggah. They really use/need the 8-String because of the wide range of notes there is in their compositions (especially in their last album 'Obzen')
