I don't think the one we're seeing is 600lbs. If you notice, the narrator says 'Say, a 600 lb'er', not 'the 600 lber shown here'. It just doesn't look like it'd be heavier than 100, at most. Unless its the fabled Lead Octopus.
This is blatant exaggeration for dramatic effect. Either the octopus in the video is not 600 pounds, or the hole is larger than they say. The radius of a quarter is 1.25cm. Assuming the octopus is slightly more dense than water, 600 pounds of octopus would require 692 meters of pipe the diameter of a quarter.
Yeah, seemed a bit fishy to me as well. That's how they had it in the description on the official National Geographic channel, though, so I figured I'd present it here as it was presented there, more or less. I've changed the title, now.
I could be wrong, but I believe I've seen this video segment before, except with a different narrator. Wouldn't be surprising if they dumbed down the narration because they assumed it would draw a greater audience. (Though this version could be for a kid's show.)
He says this is a cyanea which is apparently about a meter long. WP doesn't have a weight but I can't imagine it's 600lbs. Still, his exact words, though they don't state you're looking at a 600lber, do say that a 600lber could fit down a tube the size of a quarter.
Octopi have doughnut shaped brains that are around their mid-sections. I don't know how squishy they are but it is a mis-conception that the large bulbous part at the "head" contains the brain. That part actually more akin to our torso area.
Watching this video makes me suddenly aware the toilet drain is larger than a quarter...
so is your butthole..
"You can be an octopus, too! Call now!"
"Mam, that's the aquarium's octopus."

Not big enough to park a semi in, like yours.
on a different note, I plan on assassinating the narrator. Anyone with me?
