That little place the wabbits were playing in the cock-fight ring, and the cocks dinna like it.....silly wabbits, cockfighting is for cocks with feathers, not bunnies with hares !

don't bring a hare to a cock fight.

That was surreal. "Do you feel lucky, bunny? Well, do you?"

Wow that was incredible, the roosters acted like police and were keeping the peace. What would want them to do that? Were they conditioned to do that?

Thought running through the bunnies' minds: "Who they hell were THEY?!?!"

the roosters, looked as if they switched on when the playful skirmish started in the ring between the bunnies....the cocks, or male chickens, saw an opportunity to give in to their conditioned/instinctual territorial? impulses, and joined in on the ass-whuppin', though the rabbit part, threw them off (no spurs??), and it reset their pea-brained asses.....if they have asses..oh yeah they do, that part you give to the dog out th' oven...and they lost interest.....

animal husbandry, don't happen in the city.....

Are they chickens or roosters? Hard to see with this low quality video.

The only thing that could possibly make this funnier would be to dub in a stereotypical Irish Cop voice.

Cool post! My impression:

Roosters are extrememly territorial. The bird at top appears to be a hen (hard to tell sometimes); both can be seen to keep an eye out for anything that might cause trouble for the flock. The two rabbits cause enough commotion to warrant putting a stop to, especially if nesting hens were nearby.

If all the animals involved have a pre-existing relationship (which is likely), the rooster and hen could also have been reaffirming that they were the ones in charge, and higher than the rabbits in their establish dominance roles ('pecking order', literaly) around their nesting territory.

"ALRIGHT, YOU TWO! ENOUGH!"

Edit: Notice also how they both go after and section off the aggressor first, and the one actually attacks the aggressor, while the defender isn't touched. Great, fascinating vid. Might make you pause before ordering that chicken sammich.

^ Well, that's new. I've never heard anyone refer to a bunny rabbit as an "aggressor", but whatever...

Try watching the video.

If that doesn't help, consult this definition:

ant: Are they chickens or roosters?

One of each - the one closest to the camera is a rooster, but the one in the back is a hen.

(I'm nearly 100% sure - but I'm no chicken sexer)

This is exactly how we rescued our bunny. She was in the same situation...in an area where chickens, roosters and rabbits were kept together. They do this to train them for fighting. My rabbit had her eye pecked by a rooster...and she was only a wee thing. Maybe 8 weeks old. I could fit her in my hand.

As cute as this may seem, don't be fooled. Rabbits are extremely territorial and are prone to fighting if provoked. (Mine has chased my cat out of her area many, many times...grunting and snarling and very determined. The killer rabbit in the Holy Grail is probably based on someone's experience. ) They are often used as sparring animals for cock fighters. It's an awful, awful thing.

We were lucky to stumble in on the place where this was happening, but sadly my Spyro was the only one to make it out - under my jacket. By the time we got the authorities to do something, all of the animals had been "killed by a wild dog."

I hope this video wasn't taken in one of those places. I hope that it's an organic, free-range farm that just happens to have a small staging area...maybe for drum circles or fire poi. Yes. That's what I'll choose to believe.

Now, I think I'll go give my bunny some love.
