I guess it's not shredding then. I thought it just meant playing fast on the guitar. Is there a less boring word than, "plays" that I could apply to classical guitar?

Agggggg! Every time I look at a guitar player on this site I just want to give up playing. I used to think I was pretty good; now I feel like a 42 year old loser who shouldn't even look at a guitar.

UPDATE: I just went out on the street and played "Fire and Rain". I made three dollars. Ah well, I guess that's something.

"shred" may be more appropriate than we've given credit for.

She's playing Paganini's 24th Caprice (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/24th_Caprice), widely considered one of the most difficult solo violin pieces ever written.

Most career violinists can't even begin to touch this piece. A 14-year-old pulling it off on any instrument is amazing. She was pretty much flawless.

I've listened to it a hundred times, and I've found two mistakes. One is around the 5:00 mark. I can't remember where the other one is. On YouTube, the commentary agrees that her strumming technique needed improvement, but that in later recordings as an adult (this was about ten years ago) her technique was much improved. I know diddly about classical guitar, so I can't comment.

To most guitar players "shredding" is exactly the right word to use here. I really don't understand the confusion. Anyway, she did a great job and I don't see any point in nit-picking her performance to death. I give it a big thumbs up!!!

From a technical aspect of playing - anyone that can play Paganini cleanly can "shred".
I grew up playing classical guitar,bass,violin and piano. Shred is actually a valid term here.

By far the most difficult "shred" piece by Paganini is his 5th Caprice. While not as beautiful as this one here, it's a 10 on the scale of difficulty... this one rates about a 8 to 9 on difficulty.

This girl plays this piece very beautifully.
