Asshole Mario: Stage 1 -- Go!
>>I lol'd at the name of the level: Akihabara, where a recent knifing spree took place a couple weeks ago. Morbid, morbid humor right there.

Meh, this video has been around for years. So I doubt it has anything to do with the knifing, unless the game comes with a precog module built in.

The Power of Shaolin Kung Fu
When I trained at Shaolin, they said it took about a month to do the spear thing (bending the spear with your neck). They're not sharp, by the way, but you do need to build up something like a callus on the throat.

But yeah, most of that Qi Gong stuff is nonsense, just cheap parlor tricks for a gullible audience, and "documentaries" like this don't do anything to help. Some of it is very impressive though.

When they put on a performance at the school I was at for the parents, they had a guy suck a bowl against his stomach, and 5 people couldn't pull it off. So they called on me, the biggest person in the room (I'm 6'6", 275 pounds) and grabbed onto the guy who was going to try to pull the bowl off. I yanked so hard I threw the guy about 15 feet across the stage, and the bowl was torn in half -- the other half was still stuck to his stomach, which was still pretty damn cool.

Impeachment
Best quote about Kucinich ever:
"Looking at the line-up of speakers at the Convention, I have developed the 7-11 challenge: I will quit making fun of, for example, Dennis Kucinich, if he can prove he can run a 7-11 properly for 8 hours. We'll even let him have an hour or so of preparation before we open up. Within 8 hours, the money will be gone, the store will be empty, and he'll be explaining how three 11-year olds came in and asked for the money and he gave it to them."

WATCH FEMA & Local COPS VIOLATE OUR 2nd AMENDMENT RIGHTS!
>>Doesn't matter if it's 10,000 to one, the tank wins.

If it was 10,000 to one, the tank loses. How many shots, exactly, do you think a tank carries??

Even at 100 to 1, if the people rebelled, that would be 300m Americans vs 3m. If you have a heavily armed populace, "democracy" will win. If you have a state with severe gun control (like, oh for irony's sake... Nazi Germany) then the government can repress the masses.

The 2nd Amendment basically guarantees that if the government gets too far out of control, the populace can correct it. It's sort of part of the checks and balances system.

Atheist Sues U.S. Military
>> The word atheist has none, and can never have any more meaning than that.

Except it does. Even Dan Dennett doesn't necessarily like the term atheist because it carries with it the connotation of "belaboring" Christians about their beliefs.

While I suppose, yeah, if you just look at a strict definition by a dictionary, you can make that claim, but people make associations in real life based on their experiences, and while most of my experiences with atheists are positive (I'd say the majority of my friends are atheists, while I'm a Xian), there have been many instances to the contrary as well. On Slashdot, the atheists there are in the majority and incredibly condescending to anyone who believes in Christ, and at my university (UC San Diego) we had a very vocal atheist professor (http://polisci.ucsd.edu/faculty/irons.htm) who was quite the dick to people who didn't agree with him in class, if he thought they were religious in any fashion.

His biggest act of asshat-ery, though, was when during a legal battle over the existence of the cross on Mt. Soledad, he sneakily booked the site for Easter morning, even though (well, because) a church group had held Easter morning services there every year. So that he could hold a pagan ceremony there instead. Basically, though, just to be a dick.

Women and VideoSift: Why I'm a feminist. Guys, I quoted you. (Terrible Talk Post)
>> 5. Prairie Dog, generally accepted as MALE. Thus: Drama KING

As we all know, the true threat to feminism is the sexist prairie dog actor's union.

America - Netherlands Drug use Stats
Just for the hell of it, I pulled up the stats for Amsterdam:
http://www.cedro-uva.org/lib/abraham.licit.pdf

Marajuana rates rose sharply since 1987 to 2001, with 20 to 24 year olds "ever tried it" rising from 38% to 58%. Even 50 to 59 year olds this rate rose from 8% to 32%. The average rate of people who have ever used it is at 38%, but that includes the 12-15 and 60-plus age groups, which use at a much lower rate in Amsterdam than the other groups.

Cocaine "ever tried it" use is pretty high in some age groups in Amsterdam as well, with those living through the 80s (30 to 49 group) having the highest rates, of around 17%. There's much less use in older groups, and younger groups don't seem to use it as much either, but the average "ever tried it" rate is at 10%, which is much higher than the (presumedly accurate) 2% figure stated above in the video for the Netherlands as a whole.

Ectasy is quite popular in the younger crowd instead, with about 15% to 20% of 20 year olds trying it.

It's also important to point out that "ever tried it" metrics, which is what the video was using, is misleading, since ongoing usage rates can decrease (as they apparently have been in America: http://www.ncjrs.gov/htm/chapter2.htm) without affecting that percentage.

Well... not at least until all the hippies die off.

This obviously is just a fast look at the stats, and it is looking specifically at Amsterdam (which is a shithole compared with the rest of the country, no offense to any Dutch here) but it appears as if drug use is rising there, but decreasing in America, which indicates legalization isn't a good idea if you want drug use to decrease.

Toward 2012 [Postmodern Times series]
Substitute all the stuff in this with what they were saying 25 years ago, and you'll see how full of bullshit all of this is. As someone who spent a lot of time at the San Diego Zoo in the early 80s, I've developed a sizeable lack of tolerance for this sort of nonsense, since I was exposed to so much of it as a kid.

All that'll happen in 2012 is Obama winning re-election, which is bad enough.
