I believe, as a christian, that blah blah blah.

The moment you frame a statement in that way you're admitting that you don't actually believe what you're about to say, and are admitting that it's a characteristic of a contrived context of which you have chosen to follow. It's weak, and is specifying a source to lay blame if you happen to be wrong.

Rewind up and say I believe, as a reasonable human being, that blah blah, and see how it sounds then.
