X Greetings! You are not currently logged in, but please don't let that stop you from voting up any videos you like. :)
is there any way to still view how many votes a video had when it was discarded? like a small numeral on the can or near it?

the reason i ask is that sometimes i want to save a video, but since i only get one/week, i don't want to save a video with only 2 votes. if it had 6 or 7 though, it's worth the save.

The lists of who voted for and against are still there if you scroll down. I had one I saved tonight after looking at the number of upvotes.

personally, i think you should save a video on merit (because you want the video to be seen and voted on) ... not because it was so close in votes.

anyway ... yeah, what the dude said!

I agree with Phoenix, there definitely needs to be something like that.

And while it's true that it does list the number of votes inside the video page it would be nice to have something that would show the votes in my discarded pages, over many videos so I can quickly see which one merits more.

I disagree Ladybug, the nature of the sift means that there is a lot of people who post excellent videos (NickyP!) but their videos quickly get kicked down the queue, so by the time they manage to attain 7 or 8 votes they die. Isn't this why the save invocation was created after all?

Furthermore saying that each video needs to survive on its own merit, is too harsh there are so many videos I have seen here that I might otherwise never had... like why would I ever look for a video of a midget break dancing?

Basically what I mean to say, there is a lot of videos that people didn't know they'd love to see.

point taken, farvster!

i guess since i'm a sift addict and basically hit every page of videos/comments ... i tend not to lose any later in the queue.

i hadn't thought of that ... thanks!

Personally, this isn't an issue for me because I'll always scroll down to check out the votes for/against to see the video's condition.

If it only had one or two votes, it's often worth just re-posting it and not 'wasting' a save (unless you're super-chivalrous and want the person to get credit... I'd rather just repost if I think it's worthy and save *another* one of that person's vids).

Unless it's a video that's especially special to me (or I'm feeling particularly lazy), I'll usually avoid the low-vote-gotten vids for saves.

What sucks is when you post a unique video like I did(http://www.videosift.com/story.php?id=22620), and then someone thinks its a dupe because they didn't watch it or weren't paying attention, then they discard it. And seeing as you can't save your own submissions and I was too lazy to submit it again for fear of someone discarding it again, it remains in the bin.

Very good point Ren...I feel that some vids have been discarded with too little forethought or discussion (if any).

And I totally agree with your comment Farhad (especially the NickyP namedrop!) - apart from the total votes for discards being needed: surely you can count up to eight?

Personally, anything I think's a great, yet discarded Sift gets a save (no matter the number of votes, unless the total's negative)...I have a long list I'm working through, slowly!

Benjee obviously reading and comprehension weren't the strong parts of your English GCSE.

I don't have the time to click on each one and scroll down and see how many votes it got especially when I have a save, I'd click to simply click on my profile, go to the Discards, and then instantly be able to tell how many votes each discarded video got, pick one and save it.

In fact Farhad, English (both language and literature) was my strongest subject at GCSE level (I got an A, as you can probably tell from my near-perfect grammar & punctuation in comments!) </BIG_HEAD>

A number over the trash icon would be useful for you slackers (Farhad!) who can't be arsed counting to eight (can you tell I ignore votes when saving Sifts? )

Clearly you're not an economist. Since arbitrarily saving certain sifts doesn't really work, as more often then not the sift dies because of the communities disinterest in it's contents.

I mean everyone loves Ninjas, anyone will tell you that... but I submitted Hexstatic - Ninja twice to see it fail while getting around 5 to 6 votes. I realized now it's a hopeless case.

So the idea behind the number is at least to bring back discarded videos that at least some majority expressed an interest and a vote for. I have nearly 50 discarded videos, I want to know quickly which out of the 50 got the most votes.

Want to be big headed eh? I did A Level English Literature and got an A, which is funny considering I got B's in IGCSE English and literature.
