Videos from unlisted sites? • VideoSift: Online Video *Quality Control

What's the reason for only allowing diamond users to submit videos from small or new video sites? I understand how much diamond users contribute to the site, but it doesn't seem to support the mission of videosift to limit that ability to just a handful of the most active users.

I don't have enough free time to do much submitting, so I thought (incorrectly) that I could partially make up for it by upgrading to charter.

(I'm looking at a video on www.sunvideos.net)

Actually, the ability to submit from any source is available starting at gold, (according to the member privileges page).
It used to be diamond, but has been changed, so at least you don't have as far to go as you used to.

I think the reasoning is (or at least I assume) that someone could in theory embed something malicious, so the idea is to make sure you're somewhat trustworthy before giving the power to embed from non-approved hosts. I'm just guessing that's the reason, I could be way off on that one.

Also, at least at the beginning, there were a bejillion little YouTube clones that are not around today- so we wanted to make sure the content was going to stick around.

I would imagine that if this privilege were to be given to any users, there would be allot more utter crap/spam. I think gold is a prefect level for it. Us Goldies have sifted enough to say "hey, a good portion of my life revolves around VideoSift, so you can trust that I won't do any malicious, because if I did, I wouldn't know what to do with myself if the site were to go down." Buuuut at the same time, it doesn't really take too much of an effort to reach gold. so its a great level to shoot for.

I'm with Arsenault on this one (for once)... being able to use any site is given to the people who are deemed trustworthy by other members voting on their posts... and while I can agree that the lower ranked members do get the short end of the stick here, it is to allow people who did more for the site to have more rights... Just submit videos and earn the right...
