The Eight Factions of VideoSift

[edited]
I have spent some time trying to break the different personalities on this site into various groups or factions, not unlike the different factions of the Republican Party or the Democratic Party. To do this, I think I've been able to boil it down about six eight different factions that I think everyone can fit into to some degree.

So, without further ado... here they are! The very first Six Eight Factions of VideoSift!

Compassionate Downvoter - The compassionate downvoter believes videos voted onto the front page are representative of the attitudes and mores of all members of VideoSift and won’t upvote any material he/she feels does not reflect kindly on their own personal character. Downvoting a video is difficult for the compassionate downvoter, because although he/she wants to prevent videos from reaching the front page they have an aversion to, they also believe downvoting to be a personal attack on the video submitter, therefore when they do downvote they feel compelled to give a heartfelt, overly-elaborate explanation as to why in the video’s comments. This faction of VideoSift is also commonly referred to as Socio-Site Traditionalist.

Aggressive Downvoter – The aggressive downvoter, much like the compassionate downvoter, believes videos voted onto the front page are representative of the attitudes and mores of all members, but they also believe any member who contributes degenerative content such as spam or self-links should be dealt with openly and swiftly. The aggressive downvoter will never apologize for his/her downvotes, and will readily push for strict punishment whenever the site’s rules are encroached upon. This faction of VideoSift is also commonly referred to as Site Rights Advocate or Quick Banner.

Soft Trolls – A soft troll tends to either be a probie with no queued videos or a bronze-starred member, allowing him/her safe passage within the site without fear of being banned. They tend to aggressively seek out confrontation in the comment section but are ultimately harmless, thus the term “soft”. This faction of VideoSift is also commonly referred to as the Polite Baiters.

Functional Simlishaholic – A functional (or Functioning) Simlishaholic is someone who is either purposely confusing or unintentionally confusing but is a well adjusted member of the online community. A Simlishaholic is someone who is pathologically addicted to Simlish (according to Wikipedia, Simlish is a fictional language featured in the Sim series of games.). This faction of VideoSift is also commonly referred to as Choggie.

Epistemological Taoist – The epistemological Taoist favors the expansion of pedantic information on the site whether it is in the form of religion, science, politics or nature. They have a very low tolerance for puerile content and will downvote with great prejudice if they feel it is insulting of their intelligence. This faction of VideoSift is also commonly referred to as the Indignant Nerd.

Egalitarian Purist – The egalitarian purist emphasizes equality of all members regardless of star power. They tend to oppose favoritism and are especially nurturing to probies and low ranked members. Working as a watchdog unit, the egalitarian purist will pounce on any member being abusive to another less fit to defend themselves. They’re especially angered by the belligerent and contemptuous dealings of the Aggressive Downvoter. This faction of VideoSift is also commonly referred to as the Watchdog Nancies.

Status Sycophant – The status sycophant believes his role on the Sift is to gain star power and popularity above all else. This opportunist solicits votes from members via direct contact on profile pages, labors over picking the perfect title to garner the most attention, and strives to be the person with the wittiest comment that will ensure he is awarded a star. The status sycophant tends to check his/her profile (unsifted videos, comments posted, etc.) first before watching other member’s videos or reading other member’s Sift Talk Posts. This faction of VideoSift is also commonly referred to as Self Groupie.

Unassuming Neutral – The unassuming neutral remains quiet on most potentially controversial subjects in fear of offending others and endeavors to be amiable and well received. He/she may occasionally enjoy a spirited debate but surely will side with the prevailing opinions. This faction of VideoSift is also commonly referred to as Fence-Sifters.
