I have diligently added Amazon links to my and other posts where relevant. I wonder if it is helping you pay the bills in any significant way. And on that topic, how are you managing? Not long ago it seemed like you were very low on money.

That's a very good question. Now, before I tell you how much we made in our September month- I'd like to preface it by letting you know that I *like* the Amazon links, especially books that are related to Ted talks. I follow the links often, and feel like they add to the community in ways that are not monetary.

Having said that (I'm prepping you for disappointment) Amazon- to date, has not been a major source of income for us. Looking at the September results, we made .... [drum roll]

$12.72
Disappointed that a neat, community powered idea isn't a major money spinner? As you young punks say, welcome to my world.

We do really appreciate the people who have tagged posts with interesting Amazon links though- and as I said - I do think they add to the community.

To date, the biggest and steadiest source of financial support for VideoSift has been traditional CPM advertising, though Charter memberships are definitely helping too.

Thanks for sharing this information with the community!

Ah that's sad. I'm sure I've made a few buys through amazon links on this site. Even when I buy something on Amazon that's not related to any of the Sifts I still enter amazon through a sift link. How much commission do you get per sale? Maybe something is a bit wrong with the tracking of links to the buying at Amazon.

Any way, I do agree with you that they add something to the sift. With many posts you get links to interesting books or DVDs which you may never have considered. Also I think the Amazon link looks nice on the page.

I keep forgetting to do this and I buy a fair amount of stuff from Amazon. Will do better.

I rarely see Top 15 videos tagged with amazon items. Those videos get the most exposure, so it's a shame that they don't get more amazon love.

I honestly forgot about amazon links. When they were first introduced to the sift I linked when I could.

How about a videosift toolbar so one can do cool things around the web? To find and easily post video, post Videosift embeds to other sites and more.

And if you find something cool on Amazon you can submit it to a page on Videosift. Items in this "shopping basket" could then be allocated to suitable posts by sifters. The submitter can and should write a blurb and gets a link to their PQ for their trouble (voting on posts might then be needed).

Besides being a source of Amazon links for posts the basket would also be a list of affiliate links on one page (link it to Shop) and you can sort by category etc and you could just buy anything that looks cool without having to find it on a given video.

With a greater volume of valued affiliate links your revenue has got to go up. Make this place a lovely portal for retail therapy!

C'mon this is a brilliant idea. I should do consultancy.

I hope you have better luck getting them to pay you than I did. I ran a web page for a couple of years and sold a number of books for them, never saw a dime of it myself though. In spite of writing several times to complain and them acknowledging that they owed me. They just kept running me through this pointless loop of suggesting that I check my payment options then ignoring me when I told them we'd already had that conversation until I got tired of trying.

I wonder if you guys could add the number of amazon invocations a user has made to their profile stats?
