Possible duplicates should include discarded posts?

Story: So, the white and nerdy post inspired me to post an old bit of really bad white rap, where he is middle class and cuts the grass, much like Weird Al's opening. I found the version on break, searched here for middle class, average homeboy (the name of the video), that sort of thing, found nothing. Did my submission. It provided me a list of possible dupes, it wasn't there. Finished submission. The URL:

http://www.videosift.com/video/Average-Homeboy-2

Whoa, "-2"? So I pop in
http://www.videosift.com/video/Average-Homeboy

Sure enough, it has been submitted, though was discarded due to being a dupe (which isn't so well tagged or entitled). I discarded it.

Now it was not tragedy or anything (and I could have found it with an advanced search), but as a suggestion, listing discards in possible dups might help find this sort of thing if it occurs very often.

I think we've asked Dag/Lucky in the past about this and the answer was that the searches would then bog down the database, slowing the site.

Discards are fair game for resifting, but you just ran into an unusual case. Besides, sometimes it takes many many tries to get something sifted.

Case in point: http://www.videosift.com/video/Fuck-it-If-Unicorn-planet-made-it-this-can-too
Exact same video was sifted 17 times before it was finally able to keep from being downvoted out (knickers twisted twits).

It happens to all of us at one time or another. You look for any dupes trying all the tag words that should pull up any dupes and you get nothing. You post the video and then someone else points out that it has already been posted by someone that was more interested in being clever with their title and description rather then accurate about what it is.

Not much we can do about it except go edit that other videos tags so that in the future when someone else is searching for a dupe it will show up.
