Well, it's been a couple of days since our last tweaks to the default front page "Hotness" listing and it seems to be working pretty fantastically, in this reporter's unbiased opinion.
The listing is constantly fresh with only truly Hot videos remaining on the front page any longer than any others, so it's running with a good turnaround rate and most all the content listed is well worth watching.
So, I'm wondering: What do you think of the listing's refresh rate and content quality? How often do you view the Hotness listing?
Thanks for your input, Sifters.

and the "hide featured member comment" filter isn't working again...
Also, for the general pool, if all used hotness, no unsifted videos would ever show up, because newly submitted videos are only hot once someone who has it sorted by "newness" looks at it.
It will take a little while for the change to propagate through the hot listing, but let's see if it looks any better once it does.
As for how exactly hotness is determined, it's a combination of many factors, but we won't divulge so no one has any advantage in trying to get their own vid up higher in the list.
A video gets submitted. It's hot. It goes to the front (hotness) page.
What happens when it gets ten votes? It goes back to the top of the page?
I would test this with my own videos but no one ever votes for them.
By the way VideoSift is still by far the best video site on the web. I thank you for providing me a place on the internet that I lovingly call my home.
Sorry but I don't get it and I don't like it. This is comming from someone who almost consistently checked this site every day since 2006.
*update* I finally figured out about the stupid newness button at the bottom, never saw it and never heard about it until I read this post. I sound like an old conservative geezer but I don't think it should be default.
Ok, forgive me but I still don't understand.

Incorrect. A submitted video is not automatically hot and thus it does not go to the front (hotness) page.
>> What happens when it gets ten votes? It goes back to the top of the page?
Total vote count (wrt published/unpublished) does not affect a video's hotness, so it does not bring it to the top of the hotness listing.

I know how you feel.
