Dupe Discards

I'd like to know if "discarded results" can be added to the duplicate list on submission. Here's an example of a common issue that might be avoided:

I posted a video that expired in the queue with eight votes, a favorite and a playlist entry. A few days later, it was posted again. Usually I (and others) post some sort of "gee, I hope this makes it this time" comment.

My thoughts are that if the video had come up in duplicate search, perhaps it would've gotten a Save instead. Anyone else see a benefit to this or am I just being incredibly selfish?

I'd like to see near misses get a second chance (I know I've had my share!), but I'm trying to figure out how this would work. If a gold member saw the original in dupe search, they could save the old one. Non-gold members could either go ahead and publish the new one nonetheless (as they could see the dupe was a discard), or they could come to SiftTalk and ask a gold to save the old one. That seems to be an awkward workaround.

I may be asking for a nightmare here, but could there be some way all members could revive a discarded video, perhaps after a specific time period? In practice, the same video can be submitted again after it has been discarded, so it's as if we can all save anyway, except that non-gold members create another database entry.

I think a dupe discard list would be handy, not just for suggested saves (I have a huge list of 'em to get through as it is!) but for an indication on how the Sift or subject has done before. Maybe we could get more saves too (every 4 days), in line with the queue?

isn't there a way already? the first video i posted got 7 votes, but never made it out of the queue. It got discarded, so today I posted it again. Someone then discarded it, revived the original, and almost immediately, it was promoted to the main list.

<edit>then again, I think it was saved because it hadn't been completely removed from the system.</edit>

Nothing is ever completely removed from the sytem, I've got almost 200 discards in my pile.

In your situation Firefly fortunately had a Save and gave it to you. That's exactly what I'm talking about: It promotes a caring community. I'd be more than happy to save someone else's expired video if I were submitting the same one and the system showed me where it had already been posted.

I love this idea. But I believe the problem is that most gold stars don't actually use their saves and promotes.

It's great we have the sidebar that shows sifts that are about to expire. But yeah we all have loads of cool videos stuck at 7 to 8 votes that died.

I'm still actively pushing for a more frequent "recharge" rate for saves, instead of the present full week, if only for charter members if not for all goldies.

Every 3 or 4 days would be nice - try experimenting with just the charter golds perhaps?
