So today I turn on my laptop to behold a blue screen with white letters. I didn't have to read anything to know I had finally, for the first time in my life, encountered the 'Blue Screen of Death'. I suppose it's expected since I've had my laptop for 5 years.

So here's my query; What the heck do you do with a dead laptop? I mean besides using the motherboard as a very expensive (and unstable) coaster.

You sure it's a MoBo error and not hard drive/ram/something else? If it's a replaceable part I'd do that. Otherwise, recycle it properly.

Put it on ebay. Someone will buy it for parts.

Well, read what the error is. I just got the blue screen on my desktop a while back and all I needed to do was update my graphics card driver. I also got it once on an older comp when I didn't have enough memory.

Is it a Windows BSOD? If so search for the error message and find out what it means. Could be just Windows needs re-installing or hardware failing (mem, HD or worse).

Really, I might be able to save my laptop (at least for a couple more days)? I'm so glad VS is filled with geeks! I'll power up ol' faithful tonight and see what happens.

On a related side note. You should always backup your files at least once a month. This is to keep you from causing permanent physical damage to inanimate objects.

I'll post my results when I see it again. I just remember it said something about a hardware failure and if this was my first time seeing this message I should restart my computer.

Definitely google the BSOD error message. It may pinpoint you to a specific hardware fault, although odds are generally it won't. Also, you do of course know you can take out the hard drive and recover any data you had on it right? May be a silly question but I guess it doesn't hurt to ask

Better than the Balls Deep of Death. That would just add insult to injury, you know?

Speaking of which, I got sick of my crappy 5th generation iPod and stabbed it with a knife (long story, but basically iPod sucks). The piece of shit is smoking outside on the patio right now (hope it doesn't catch fire). God, Apple sucks.

A blue screen of death is by no means the end of a computer. I'm no tech geek but I used to try to over-clock half-life on my laptop and got the BSOD all the time. That was back in 2003 and the thing's still running fine today.

Yeah more than likely it's a bad driver or the OS needs re-installing. You should be able to re-install Windows right on top of itself and get any files you need, then I would recommend formatting the hard drive and reinstalling a fresh OS.

Ok, so turns out it was a hard drive problem, So I cut out some programs, did a disc check and drefrag. Seems to be doing fine so far. Well I appreciate all the input, I just thought it was dead but now I can be frustrated with my slowly failing laptop for years tot come. Thanks... I think.
