Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) voted YES on March 1, 2006, on reauthorizing the Patriot Act. Obama voted NO on December 16, 2005, on the Motion for Cloture of PATRIOT Act (HR 3199).
It looks like the lesser of two evils is still evil.

Not voting for the Patriot Act is akin to political suicide. Its simply too easy to draw a talking point that Obama does not care for American safety.
You're saying we should not hold people accountable for their voting record? Ron Paul didn't support the Patriot Act, and I doubt you can say his career was stumped from that choice.

Ron Paul has the reputation for doing whatever he feels like, but Obama has not had that privilege yet. He would have been crucified.
politicians are sworn to uphold the rule of law, not the rule of the majority.
One is nearer the good part, thus he would get my vote.
I would like to think that he could do something about it when he is sworn in, but in any case he is better that the alternative.
But less evil..
I don't like it, but there's nothing anybody can do. Change in politics is akin to Sisyphus rolling the rock up a hill.
Dismantling what has been put in place over the last 8 years is going to take decades. Thats why it was such a shame it happened in the first place.
The American people are just as guilt for falling behind war fever and panic, the politicians only reacted to the nation as a whole. Which is funny because the population as a whole finds it so easy to blame the people they put into power.
If any terrorist attack happened however minor, questions would be raised about whether the Patriot Act could have prevented it.
Here's a few choice pieces of that statement:
It appears that proponents of 3rd party candidates can smear and distort their opponents' positions with just as much disregard for the truth as Republicans.
If you care about civil liberties vote for Obama. A 3rd party will not win the Presidency this year, and "sending a message" by voting 3rd party will fall on deaf ears within the major parties, and in the public at large.
It's time to stop looking for your ideal candidate, and make a choice to either support a candidate who got his degree in Constitutional Law or help elect someone who thinks disagreement with the government is unpatriotic.
