Lately I've been seeing a lot of reposts of older videos that aren't caught and end up being published to the front page. This isn't really anyone's fault, as duplicates aren't always caught during the "duplicate links" part of the video submission process. However, in order to avoid filling VS up with dupe posts, I recommend that before posting a VS member would do a couple of quick searches to see if their video is already on VS. For example, if you have a video of a classic Donald Duck cartoon where he's out hunting bears, a quick search of "donald duck" and "bears" will likely catch the dupe before it's posted.
On a related note, I think a feature that we might want to look into for a future iteration of VS is to have a section of the submission page that would list off dead or discarded videos that might match the submission as well. This would allow the poster to save or undead a video instead of reposting it, thus keeping VS clean of more dupes.
I don't know all the planned features for VS 3, so perhaps this issue has been addressed already . . .

So... Sometimes pointed it out as a dupe, and your excuse for not discarding it yourself (a gold star) is that the other poster isn't active enough, and that your title is better?
I have a question. Can/should gold status be revoked for shit like this?
You know what you need to do. Quit being a putz and discard it. This has been covered before.
No, but in VS3 it might be revoked for any insulting comments that you like to spread around. Watch yourself, you said to me before that sarcasm and smarminess get the best of you. Why don't you take that glimmer of good sense you showed before and not be such a hothead? It's not your most redeeming trait and you haven't been making friends with quite a few people around here recently. (Gwaan and Krupo come to mind.)
Yes, that IS my excuse, but if you haven't noticed, I'm not the only gold star around here. Please, if you want to discard it, go right ahead. I figured that at least I'll be around to keep the link active, not to mention you can actually FIND my video.
If the original poster put in the correct tags, and the new poster does too, the video WILL show up.
If the original poster did a bad work, why should I waste my time for it? I go on posting and if it's a dupe someone will notice.
search for a kitten vid... see if you get 'em all in the dupe list... go ahead...
that being said, i DO wholly believe in proper tagging. 1 or 2 targeted searches should find the dupe, if it exists. going beyond that shouldn't be required.
