Early Rottenseed and I discarded what we both saw as dupes. One posted first, but the other published first.

Which gets to stay? Oh, we asked it to come to siftalk w/ *discuss. Didn't see it. Is there another place it's to go for discussing?

Ummm, so I'm not really sure what occurred here. I posted my video at 1 am(Central US) last night, which is reflected by the post date on the discarded post(I guess published dates aren't shown on discarded posts). If you ask me I'm pretty sure I posted first, if someone wants to second and return it that's fine with me.

Post first counts, publish counts for nothing. Otherwise the unsifted queue would be filled with pre-published dupes. (In my not-at-all humble opinion)

Well, I'm no Dag, but the rule is whatever is submitted first is the original. Published, not published... Those make no difference because if one was posted when the other was already on the Sift, it was a duplicate submission, plain and simple.
