ABC's Sadly BS Palin Interview Report, and Justice Prevails
posted by Doc_M 1 month 3 weeks ago • 293 views
You might have many reasons to dislike Sarah Palin, but here is one you can eliminate.

A recent article at JWR has revealed the absolutely ridiculous editing by ABC of Palin's words in her religious views and her recent "chruch video" that surfaced and for which she has been criticized. (This was in the original aired interview by Charlie Gibson)

Here is an example of the editing which is so obviously skewed out of context that any idiot would realize she is being misquoted in order to make her look more radical. Telling someone to pray that something is true, that something is right, is NOT the same as saying it IS true and it IS right.

Pray for our military men and women who are striving to do what is right; also, for this country, that our leaders, our national leaders, are sending them out on a task that is from G-d; that's what we have to make sure that we're praying for, that there is a plan and that that plan is G-d's plan.

Saying "I hope we did the right thing" is not the same as saying "We did the right thing." The first is honest reflection with a shadow of doubt. The second is arrogance with denial of all possible doubt.

Here is another example of this selective editing and quoting out of context (from the article):

[Gibson] states, "I take your point about Lincoln's words , but you went on and said, 'There is a plan and it is G-d's plan.'" ... but he conveniently omits the key point, "that's what we have to make sure that we're praying for." She never once declared "There is a plan and it is G-d's plan." Instead, as a religious believer speaking to fellow believers in a church, Governor Palin recommended that she and they all pray "that there is a plan and that that plan is G-d's plan."

Someone might not want a religious person in office and anyone can understand that, but people are being fed news and quotes that are intentionally radicalizing her beyond her actual beliefs and words. ABC here is intentionally and blatantly warping the facts to radicalize her to make the story more interesting at best, and at worst to sway voters.

ABC has apparently recently said "OH CRAP! People noticed our interview was BS! Release the whole video, release the whole video, Dive! Dive!" and justice prevails. Unfortunately for ABC, some people, including this writer SAW the first version and recognize what is what at ABC.

Heck, you might think the "whole" version of the video is wrong, but this editing is lying. It is deception.

Here is the link to the complete article which cites other instances in the same interview that are inexcusable spins.

FYI, Palin and her husband LEFT the Pentacostal denomination in favor of a less extreme, more biblical, non-denominational, semi-evanglical church. Average Joe would call this a "less crazy" church, one that your friend or neighbor might go to each sunday.

As long as bible study and creationism remains elective and extracurricular to evolution, I don't care where she attends church. That's where my gripe will always lie.

I don't there's any chance of evolution being outlawed in schools, especially with a democratic congress that will likely not change any time soon. I think it's reasonable to spend a lecture during the year on the alternative beliefs of world cultures. Parents can easily place their child in a private school if they want more.

This was a great post.

However, don't you think there is a possibility that she left that church because she had state and national aspirations and she knew that church would be too radical?

I really, really, REALLY want to know if she believes in dinosaurs and that the earth is millions of years old. If she doesn't, I DO NOT WANT HER in the Oval Office. Not in charge of the science budget.

I know that religious views aren't important. But when religious views can severely impact national policy, then the gloves are off. Not off limits.

You wear funny underwear like the Mormons do? I could care less. You think the earth is 6000 years old? I have got a serious, serious problem with your ability to make rational decisions on behalf of our nation.

Very often, higher agencies such as the prez and his -- (his/her) -- cabinet and even congress have limited control over who actually gets the money that congress allots to science and such. They give it to NIH and other such organizations and those organizations decide how much money to distribute to different subjects, then peers in that field work together to fund grants. Palin will have very little control over where the money goes and congress still would have to approve alterations in funding laws. Everyone panics when they see a new president, but congress is still responsible for most of our law.

Doc_M, do you really think she's being unfairly criticized by a liberal media?

For example, do you think the other aspects of that interview were distorted, like her not knowing what the Bush doctrine was, or her "you can't blink" speech she gave when asked about whether she had doubts about accepting the nomination for VP?

Or the 4 times she said we shouldn't "second guess" Israel if they decide to attack Iran?

The religious stuff seems inconclusive to me, though there are some crazy stories about her pastor, and others associated with her church (a story about a literal witch hunt comes to mind).

I'd love to say it's not fair game, but since the supposedly liberal media beat the Jeremiah Wright horse to death, I'm not sure there's a leg for conservatives to stand on in saying Palin's church's past is off limits.

That said, there are many other more relevant topics for us to discuss about Palin's qualifications for the job, without sinking to that level.

Think of this as her version of the "are you a Muslim" question the press always asks Obama "just because there's talk about it on the Internet".

I'm merely pointing out one particularly devious smear that is so obvious you can't miss it. I said nothing else.
