(6 votes - 2 comments - 37 views)
A rare and fascinating glimpse into a real-life version of World of Warcraft where gamer stereotypes are simultaneously shattered and confirmed.

For 48 consecutive hours-- there are no breaks, not even for sleep -- immerse yourself in a world completely unlike our own. A world built upon fantasy, chivalry, and imagination; a place where you can be anything, dress however, have almost any power, and live as a hero, healer, or villain. It's a place that lets you transform yourself, perhaps becoming the person you wish you really were. Welcome to Monster Camp, the true story of NERO Seattle.

Monster Camp meticulously examines the lives of die-hard gamers at NERO Seattle. The devoted group congregates at a secluded state park where they act out battles complete with magic potions, evil spells, and legendary sword fights.
I'm using one in combination with the train to get to work these days. It folds up and is 9 lbs. It's $200 and twice as fast as walking... I love it.

Secret is the wheels: they are big, so less likely to get stuck. Low rolling resistant makes gliding easy.

(1 vote - 0 comments - 24 views)
From Wired:
For the second time in two months, a bunch of Los Angeles bike advocates calling themselves Crimanimalz took to one of the busiest freeways in the world to make the case that, when your freeways are gridlocked, bikes are better.

About 30 cyclists rode onto the Santa Monica Freeway (I-10) at the height of Friday's rush-hour commute and went east to the San Diego Freeway (I-405), where they rode north to the Santa Monica Boulevard exit, moving easily through traffic. In all, they rode more than two miles.

"There's thousands of cars and you're just flying by," said one of the group, called RichToTheIE, by phone on Wednesday. "It's an amazing feeling."

The renegade rides are a radical off-shoot of the popular - and often controversial - Critical Mass rides held each month in cities around the world as cyclists grow increasingly vocal in asserting their rights to the road and extolling the environmental and societal benefits of ditching your car in favor of a bike.

Such rides are usually limited to downtown areas, but Crimanimalz are taking them to the freeways of Los Angeles to prove that riding a bike is faster than creeping through bumper-to-bumper traffic.

Crimanimalz first appeared around the end of last year after Santa Monica police started coming down hard on the monthly Critical Mass ride.

"The freeway is the last stronghold of the car, so when you've got 30 cyclists flying down the lanes, you feel like General Custer, you feel like the good guys," said Alex Cantarero, another of the group "People look on the bicycle as an anachronism. Now with high gas prices, the car looks like an anachronism."

Crimanimalz has held three Crimanimal Mass rides since April 18, when 15 cyclists rode almost three miles on the Santa Monica and San Diego freeways.

They haven't had much trouble with the California Highway Patrol, who managed to nab two of the cyclists in Friday's rides but let them off with a lecture even though Section 21960(a) of the California Vehicle Code gives police the authority to cite cyclists for riding on highways.

Bay Area cyclists haven't been quite so lucky. They've been busted biking over the Bay Bridge as part of their campaign to get a bike lane added to the span.

The Crimanimalz plan to keep pushing their luck - they're promising more Crimanimal rides. "We want to do a bigger freeway with more riders," said Cantarero.

The rides have garnered mixed reaction from cyclists at the Midnight Ridazz website.

(25 votes - 5 comments - 548 views)
REPUBLICAN PARTY CONVENTION RESOLUTION PASSED MARCH 29, 2008!

On March 29th, a Houston Anon made history. This brave Anon, a Galveston county delegate to the RNC, braved a Republican National Convention policy meeting and presented a proposal to get the Church of Scientology's status as a religion revoked. This would potentially mean stripping the tax exemption as well. This will need to work it's way up the ladder and if it makes it, it will mean that part of the Republican party's platform will be stripping Scientology of its religious status.

---------------------

Resolution

Initiative for Texas Resolution Calling for the revocation of the Church of Scientology's status as a Legitimate religion in the sate of Texas.

Be it resolved that the Church of Scientology in the state of Texas no longer be recognized as an official religion, thus revoking its religious tax exempt status in the state of Texas.

In order to preserve religious tax exempt status in the state of Texas an organization must meet objectives in order to qualify. They are listed in the following statements:

1.) The organization must have an official statement of Faith. The church of Scientology has no such statement.

2.) The organization must have some form of routine worship service. The church of Scientology has no such routine.

3.) Church services must be open and freely available to the public. The church of Scientology requires its members to pay an amount equal to or greater than 15,000 U S dollars and to be subjugated to months of mind altering auditing sessions in order for a member to obtain the information regarding the teachings of Scientology. Members who complete these courses are forced to sign agreements not to inform either unpaid/unaudited members or the general public of the teachings of Scientology.

Be it resolved that the church of Scientology in the state of Texas be officially regarded as a business and not as a religion.

Resolution adopted this twenty-ninth day of March, 2008, at the Precinct Convention of Precinct Number 341, and/or senatorial district 11 Convention, Galveston County, Texas of the Republican Party of Texas.
