I love how they say HERbal in the U.K.

it sounds hilarious... "would you like some HERbal tea?" hahaha

If an American says herbal with the audible H, it considered rather pretentious. Where as If one of my friends from the UK visiting/living here in the US say it's considered to be fine.

For you UKers: Why do you drop "the" from certain phrases? example: "I'm going to Hospital" in the US we would say "I'm going to the Hospital"

I always thought it was because well-frequented place names like, home, school, hospital, work etc drop "the". That's how I explained it to a very baffled Japanese student of mine recently, anyhow. But that doesn't explain place names like library, shops, store, cinema.
