So it's better that the guy puts everyone else in danger driving 100mph so his dog can be safe? I can imagine doing a little over the speed limit but not 100mph.

I can imagine doing a little over the speed limit but not 100mph.

In certain states, the Cop could be brought up on the "Good sumaritan" charge. Don't know if it has ever been done for a dog though, be interesting to see a lawyer take on that case

In most states, Dogs are considered property, wonder if you could bring the cop up on destruction of propery charges? Any lawers out there on the sift with insight into animal law?

Anyway ya, I would most likely drive at break neaks speads to get my dog to the hospital. It was night, most likely not a huge amount of traffic on the road to speak of. I know that is a rationalzation, but for me the life of my dog would be just as important as the life of a child. Being that a dog is subject to the same rules of life and death as anything else, this cop was being a real hardliner. Surely, they have crafted his heart from lead and stone to creat some kind of uber cop, but created a heartless, unsympathizing legalist. Fact is he didn't wreak into anyone yet, and the cop could of actually assisted in getting him to a emegency vet in time to actually be of some use. Istead, he didn't give the guy a ticket for the "Crime" of speeding late at night with little traffic, the dog is dead or has brain damage. Bravo, I fail to see who he actually protected and served except hypotetical people who may of maybe been hit by him maybe.

This is one of those situations where, despite the driver being reckless and dangerous, the cop could have easily escorted him and the dog to the nearest vet and then dealt with the driver there. He would have come out of this looking like what a cop should be. He could have been a good citizen and a role model. Now he is just a douche looking for action. What happened to "Serve and Protect"?

I'd like to see a cruelty against animals charge followed up by a prosecution for violation of the fourth amendment.

If this was his child choking, I think a case could be made for him resisting arrest with lethal force if necessary. It being his dog....I wouldn't find the owner guilty in a court of law.

Let it go to court if he needs to. Fuck, if your dog is dying I think you should call 911 and tell them you're going to be speeding.

Ladies and Gents,

I will maintain a civilized tone through my post but: The police officer may not have been too professional but he had a point. Speeding kills. Average Joe cannot drive fast safely. Specially at night, especially under stress. So if you drive fast, under stress, at night you will most likely make a mistake. A mistake which can result in property damage, injury or DEATH. So while I respect animals (I'm a vegetarian) I simply cannot believe how fast your are to pass a judgment. Do you know why the man's dog was dying, do you think he may have been responsible for it? Was he a vet so that he can tell that the death of his dog was imminent and what if the dog dies on the way to the hospital prior to him crashing into another car??? These are just a few questions we must ask.

Another angle is that police officers took an oath to protect us (humans).

And hey how about you say you love animals yet you walk by animal shelters without adopting those adorable puppies and kittens. They will be put down soon. So why don't you just think a but more before you judge.

The driver should have been arrested, charged and put before the court to explain his actions just to see what the judge have to say about that. Police have to protect the community from drivers like this man.
