Not only the villagers, but also 2 of the 3 guys in the RV van are suing, AND a news producer lost her job for allowing him in the studio.

"WAPT (Jackson, Mississippi) TV news producer Dharma Arthur claims in Newsweek she lost her job as a result of her booking Borat on a local afternoon news program, because she did little more than cursory research on the guest she had booked."

"Two fraternity boys, also featured in Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan have brought a lawsuit against Borat and 20th Century Fox. The lawsuit cites that the film "made plaintiffs the object of ridicule, humiliation, mental anguish and emotional and physical distress, loss of reputation, goodwill and standing in the community."

I can't believe that Baron Cohen takes advantage of people who don't know any better. Or that Bill Hicks hated rich Republicans. Or that George Carlin doesn't suffer fools.

Comedy on the edge is often brutal. I do feel much more sympathy for the villagers than the SC frat boys.

Yeah but I don't think Bill Hicks or George Clarin made fun of their targets without them knowing. The village thing really pisses me off though, I mean 3 quid? and they didn't even know what it was for? That's pretty cruel.

And there would be no Borat/Ali G/Bruno without the ambush. Is it ethical? Not usually. Is it funny? I laughed, even with/at the man with the fisting appendage.
