I know there's a fever on the internets for Ron Paul, and it's hard to disagree with him on foreign policy - but economically (the ol' libertarian ban-all-government schtick), he's a horror show.

It's not a "ban-all-government" idealogy, theo. It's an ideology that is synonomous to what our founding fathers have decreed. Those like Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, Andrew Jackson and several others. We've been warned by many a congressman and president of sinister plots against our freedoms and liberties of which has been slowly chipped away (now more rapidly than ever). If our Constitutional rights are fully taken away then this country is lost, next is the rest of the world. The NWO's prime agenda is to first slowly dismantle America's freedoms (ironically in the name of freedom and security). It will make Orwell's 1984 look like a holiday vacation if we let them succeed.

I'm not talking about defending the Constitution (which any sane person should do), I'm talking about his extreme libertarianism when it comes to economic policy -- banning the IRS, the Dept. of Education, etc. etc.

L Ron Paul is a right-wing libertard who has been pandering to the racist far-right his entire political career. Now he's 'netted' himself a whole whack of interdupes. In his career he's never once distanced himself from endorsements from the likes of people like former kkk grand-pubah and one-time candidate for president David Duke, or the proto-fascist John Birch Society. The reason? He's a fellow traveller. Anyone who would vote for a right-wing libertarian is damaged goods. Just my opinion.

Although I'm not a libertarian, I don't have the aversion to that ideology that qualm does. That being said, it's true that Paul has gotten way too much traction out of his anti-war stance. He'll start getting hammered more and more as the election approaches, I think. People will eventually find out everything qualm just mentioned, and then it will be "bye bye Ronnie!"

Whom do you think is the better candidate then? Ron Paul is the only Republican candidate that I trust and Dennis Kucinich is the only Democratic candidate that I like. Oh btw, the IRS? I'm sure they have our best interests in mind.

Yeah.. it's not like they seize people's assets or throw people in jail.. or both... Paying taxes is fine to an extent.... income tax is unconstitutional to many people though. Former IRS agents have quit in shame because they've searched but have found no law that requires us to pay income tax. Yet most of us comply and file our returns rather than have to face the dreaded IRS and jail for not giving 1/3 of your earned salary. They can't show the law to us because it doesn't exist. Look, it's just my opinion (and many others) that it's gotten extremely corrupt and out of hand and something should be done.. beginning with oversight and analysis. Yes, this may lead to elimination of a corrupt agency, but I doubt it.

People seem to forget why we fought for independence from the unjust taxation from the King of Britain in the first place.

Now it's just being done from within.

Theo...we get taxed every which way other then the income tax. People tend to forget this and think most of the money the government collects from us in taxes is via the income tax. This is not true. It has been estimated that if we eliminated the income tax we would only have to reduce spending to the levels of spending from 6 years ago. I think most people know there is enough waste and fraud in the government that this could easily be accomplished.

People think most of the money the government collects from us in taxes is via the income tax, because it is true. The White House Office of Management and Budget figures for 2006 in billions of dollars:

Total income taxes (individual and corporate) = 1397.8
Total receipts = 2407.3

That's 58% of receipts. Another 837.8 billion is from "Social insurance and retirement receipts".

All other receipts are 171.7 billion or 7% of all receipts.

If you think it is easy to cut the federal budget to the level of 6 years ago (a cut of 22.5%) then you should submit a plan to the American people and run for office, because if it made sense then I'd vote for you.

Ron Paul has been pandering to the racist far-right and violent militia movement his entire political career.

Here are some of the views he has published over the years:

"If you have ever been robbed by a black teen-aged male, you know how unbelievably fleet-footed they can be."

"Opinion polls consistently show that only about 5 percent of blacks have sensible political opinions, i.e., support the free market, individual liberty and the end of welfare and affirmative action."

"Politically sensible blacks are outnumbered as decent people... I think we can safely assume that 95 percent of the black males in that city [Washington] are semi-criminal or entirely criminal."

"We don't think a child of 13 should be held responsible as a man of 23. That's true for most people, but black males age 13 who have been raised on the streets and who have joined criminal gangs are as big, strong, tough, scary and culpable as any adult and should be treated as such."

As you can see Ron Paul *barely* stops short of stating that black people are less human.
