The fact that anyone is stupid enough to blow up a 700 lbs+ whale and not expect the remains to cause some damage shows how stupid people in this town are.

This kind of thing is better left to expert Cetacea crews with considerable experience in Whale demolition. The problem here could have been obstruction of the "blow hole" which focused the blast, resulting in ballistic blubber and putrid projectiles.
