Having had not one but TWO colonoscopies in my relatively young life, I am thankful to report that my plumbing has never been home to ascaris lumbricoides. Maybe a gerbil or two though.

I recently had my second (havent had results yet, but i assume fine, or i'd have heard) and this actually makes me feel even better about having them. now i know that if i did have one of those horrid horrid things, they'd have gotten it out.

i loath parasites. ugh.

I was reading something recently about what we call parasites actually being more like symbiotes. Worms and other creatures have been in our guts for millions of years, and they may give us immunities to things we're not aware of. It's only in the last 50 years that we've tried to stamp them out by ingesting chemicals.

Still wouldn't want one of these in my bottom.

The increase in allergies has stemmed from the decrease in parasites. However it's more like our bodies have always been busy fighting off parasites, so when something else invaded our system the response was lower due to troop investment in the parasite war. When we stopped fighting off parasites, we started sending too many troops to lesser wars, like invading pollen, thus causing more problems for ourselves. I would argue it's less like we were on the same team, more like in the absence of an identifiable enemy our bodies start making new ones.
(Not unlike certain governments...yes?)

there are hundreds of symbiotic species of *bacteria* normally found in the human gut, but I never heard of any multicellular symbiont in the GI tract. There are also some extremely common bacteria that are definitely harmful, such as Hydrogen Sulfide producers.

I cant upvote this, not because of quality or not being a good video but because i hate parasites. I knew i didnt want to watch it but i did anyway, it just creeps me out more than anything. I should of upvoted without looking at it, i dont know, ill think on it for a while
