MINK, there's a pretty distinct difference between the person on FOX and this comic. FOX is nominally a news agency, and so presumably there's supposed to be some measure of integrity displayed.

But even failing that, "Osa--oba--Osama, I mean, Obama, well, both if we could, hur hur hur," is utterly different from a comic verbalizing (seemingly in empathy) the emotion that a lot of people really do feel--"This is a great man, and so many times in the past fifty years, that has ended in tragedy."

There's gallows humor, and then there's the FOX woman.

like i said, different context.

FOX is not allowed to joke about this, because it will obviously incite assassination, but a Comedy Central writer is allowed, because, well, because of the enormous amount of previous upvotes for comedy central.

For you, MINK, because there is a world of contextual difference between a stand-up comic in the middle of his routine, and a so-called pundit being a total fuckwit on a national news show.

^erm, in the description of this post i mentioned that i am interested to see how people react to this joke in a different context.
that is why i posted it. i am interested in context. you are looking for a fight that isn't here.

of course i expected the different context to get a different reaction.

as for irony, dictionary.com says:
2. Literature.
b. (esp. in contemporary writing) a manner of organizing a work so as to give full expression to contradictory or complementary impulses, attitudes, etc., esp. as a means of indicating detachment from a subject, theme, or emotion.

In truth, I had the same reaction the first time I saw the 'Race/Religion' speech. I'm an Obama fan, but it just seems that any time someone wants to shake things up, even a little, some kind of cosmic switch goes off and it's just a matter of time.

I don't see how that's wrong; it's pessimistic, but it's nowhere near the same as wishing for it (quite the opposite).

He said: Many positive things about Obama, thus relating: "Oh my God, he's going to be assassinated." Seeing that Obama is often compared to MLK Jr. (in regard to his speaking ability, and his message of hope), I see the context of the joke.
