Yasujiro Ozu was a genius.

In Tokyo Story (1953), an elderly couple come to the city to visit their children. But the kids are too busy, and rude to their parents.

Near the end of the movie, the youngest daughter finally speaks out, complaining to Noriko (the widow of her older brother) about the rudeness of her siblings. Noriko is very kind, but she has to explain how harsh life can be between parents and children.

The younger woman says "Isn't life disappointing?". Noriko says "Iya na koto bakari" ("Yes" in the subtitles), meaning literally, "There are so many things that suck." She smiles when she says it, and doesn't quite cry.
